The DJS Japanese Language Club is an academic and cultural forum run by the students of the Department of Japanese Studies, University of Dhaka, under the supervision of its assigned Moderator D. Lopamudra Malek. Established on 29 July 2025, the club reflects the department’s commitment to enhancing Japanese language proficiency and cultural understanding beyond the classroom.
Functioning under faculty guidance, including its dedicated Instructor Kuniaki Okabaishi , the club offers a friendly atmosphere for students to practice speaking, reading, and appreciating Japanese language and culture. It conducts regular sessions for language improvement, where students engage in interactive learning, speaking practice, and skill-building activities. Alongside academic support, the club hosts cultural sessions such as origami workshops, allowing participants to experience one of Japan’s most admired traditional arts.
To expand learning and encourage confidence, the club organizes Japanese speech contests, providing platforms for students to showcase their language ability and public speaking skills. It also arranges quiz competitions, fostering learning through fun and competitive environments, while exposing students to Japan’s society, culture, and history.
These dynamic activities, combined with other student-led events, contribute to both academic enrichment and cultural exploration.
By combining structured language development with vibrant cultural engagement, the DJS Japanese Language Club supports personal growth, leadership development, and cross-cultural communication. It stands as a dynamic student-driven initiative that enriches academic learning, promotes cultural dialogue, and strengthens the department’s mission of preparing future cultural ambassadors capable of contributing to the friendship between Bangladesh and Japan.
