The Japanese Language Club is rooted in the inspiring legacy of Kazuko Bhuiyan, a beloved Sensei, mother, and friend of Bangladesh, whose devotion to Japanese language education continues to illuminate the path for new generations of learners. Arriving in Bangladesh in 1973, she dedicated over 35 years to teaching Japanese—beginning at BUET and later serving as the Principal of the Dhaka Japanese Language School, supported by the Embassy of Japan. She is fondly remembered for her kindness, liveliness, and melodious laughter, as well as her lifelong commitment to strengthening the bond between Japan and Bangladesh.
In honor of her extraordinary contributions, the Kazuko Bhuiyan Language Lab was inaugurated on June 14, 2022, by
Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Vice Chancellor, University of Dhaka, and
H.E. Mr. Naoki Ito, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Bangladesh.
This important milestone was made possible through the generous support of the Kazuko Bhuiyan Trust and the Kazuko Bhuiyan Welfare Trust, who continue to uphold her dedication to education and cultural exchange.
Guided by this legacy and supported by these trusts, the Japanese Language Club serves as a vibrant hub for students eager to explore the beauty of the Japanese language and culture. The club welcomes learners of all levels and creates an engaging, inclusive environment where members practice the language, celebrate cultural traditions, and participate in a variety of enriching activities.
Through language practice circles, cultural workshops, film screenings, festival celebrations, and collaborative projects, the club works to build both linguistic skills and deep cultural appreciation. It strives to embody the warmth, passion, and generosity that defined Kazuko Bhuiyan’s life and teaching.
The Japanese Language Club stands today as a living tribute to her remarkable journey, continuing to foster friendship, understanding, and mutual respect between Japan and Bangladesh. With every lesson learned and every cultural moment shared, the club keeps her spirit shining brightly for all who walk the path of language and discovery.
