The Journal of Japanese Studies: Exploring Multidisciplinarity (JJSEM) is an open-access and double-blind peer-reviewed journal dealing with research on the multidimensional areas of Japanese Studies. JJSEM publishes the outcome of scholarly research on Japan in various disciplines, including Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, and Natural Sciences, that explore multidisciplinary issues. The Editor is Professor Dr. Abul Barkat, the Founder Chairman of the Department of Japanese Studies at Dhaka University. The Editorial Board members are drawn from eminent scholars, including Professor Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmed-an imminent Economist, development thinker, and activist (currently, Head, Dhaka School of Economics); Prof. Dr. Shafique Uz Zaman (Professor and former Chairperson, Department of Economics, University of Dhaka); Ambassador M. Hannan, Advisor, UN Central Emergency Response, (CERF) Advisory Group and Vice President, Bangladesh Economic Association; Professor Dr. John West, Adjunct Professor, Sophia University, Tokyo; Professor Dr. Masahiko Togawa, Research
Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies; and Dr. Md Jahangir Alam, Chairperson, Department of Japanese Studies, University of Dhaka. Guide lines for the Authors
Submission of Manuscripts
The Journal of Japanese Studies: Exploring Multidisciplinarity (JJSEM) aspires to expand the multidisciplinary dimensions of Japanese studies and the essence of global perspectives. The articles shall have an understandable objective and purpose. The textual analysis should have alignment with the stated objective/s. JJSEM encourages avoiding many sections, it encourages the use of cross-references in the article. Everything in the contents of JJSEM should comply with the norms of anti-plagiarism. JJSEM discourages exact similarities between the contents of the abstract and the conclusion. Forin-text citations and a list of references, the APA 7th edition should be followed.
Original manuscripts of up to 12,000 words (including tables, figures, footnotes, references, or annexes) may be submitted for consideration and publication in the Journal of Japanese Studies: Exploring Multidisciplinarity. The word counts for different types of research work should be as follows:
- Article: 4,000 to 12,000 words
- Notes and Commentary: 3,000 to 6,000 words
- Data and Perspectives: 2,000 to 3,500 words
- Archives: 2,000 to 3,000 words
- Book Reviews: 500 to 1500 words
- Short Reviews: 250 to 300 words
- Documents: 400 to 500 words
Manuscripts previously published or under consideration for publication elsewhere cannot be considered. Copyright of original material published in the journal is to be assigned to the JJSEM. The authors should submit their work in an electronic file (Microsoft Word file) and a PDF file send as an email attachment to [jjsem.djs@du.ac.bd]. The file should include a maximum of 200 words abstract. The author could submit their paper in English or Japanese, preferably with a Japanese or English summary (200-300 words).
Therefore, the authors should carefully consider using technical jargon because the Journal of Japanese Studies: Exploring Multidisciplinarity (JJSEM) is read by academics and researchers from diverse disciplinary backgrounds. Many readers are not native speakers, so technical jargon should be avoided as far as possible. The manuscripts in which the clarity of the English is insufficient to permit initial assessment or peer review will be returned to the authors with a request for relevant changes. Abbreviations and acronyms should preferably be kept to a minimum. If unavoidable, abbreviations should be defined in the text at their first occurrence and should be used after that. Manuscripts are reviewed anonymously by referees.
Thus, we request the authors not to include their names in the running head on each page and not identify themselves in the manuscript, footnotes, or the file properties information attached to the electronic version. Authors can add any citations or acknowledgments omitted for the refereeing process when essays are accepted for publication. Authors should provide a cover letter that includes affiliation and contact information for the corresponding author. Manuscripts must be double-spaced with notes (also double-spaced) at the end. Tables, Figures, Maps, and Photos should appear on separate pages and include them at the end. Authors of manuscripts accepted for publication will be requested to furnish professional-quality graphs, figures, and other illustrations. Review Policy
This journal has adopted a double-blind reviewing policy, where both the referee and author remain anonymous throughout the process. Please remove all identifying features from the paper itself, ensuring that the Authors’ identity is not revealed. However, the author could provide four (04) anonymous reviewers to review their papers. To facilitate the double-blind review, please
include the following separately:
- Title page (with author details): This should include the title, authors’ names, affiliations, acknowledgments and any Declaration of Interest statement, and a complete address for the corresponding author, including an email address.
- Blinded manuscript (no author details): The main body of the paper (including the title,
references, figures, tables, and any acknowledgements) should not include any identifying
information, such as the authors’ names or affiliations.
Manuscript Formatting
Manuscripts should be double-spaced throughout, including block quotations and endnotes. Authors are responsible for providing professional quality as well as copyright permissions (where appropriate) for images. Manuscripts should be paginated with no other header or footer information. Microsoft Word is preferred for final files submitted for copy editing. The manuscript should be prepared in Times New Romans font, font size 12, with double line spacing
in A4 papers.
Referencing Style
Text and List:
Citations in the text should follow the referencing style used by the American Psychological Association (APA). Authors are referred to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th Edition (can be retrieved from:

References should be arranged first alphabetically and then further sorted chronologically if necessary. More than one reference from the same author(s) in the same year must be identified by the letters ‘a’, ‘b’, ‘c’, etc., placed after the year of publication.
