Bangladesh\u2019s Learning from Corporate Governance in Japan<\/span><\/p>\n Shiblee Noman*<\/span><\/strong> * Shiblee Noman is a Lecturer at the Department of Japanese Studies, University of Dhaka. <\/span>E-mail: shibleenoman.djs@du.ac.bd<\/span> Abstract<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n This paper attempts to investigate the practice of corporate governance in <\/span>Japan since it has largely contributed to the country\u2019s financial management. That, in turn, <\/span>led to the unprecedented economic boom of Japan. The practice and objective of corporate <\/span>governance have got a different momentum in Japan despite its origin from the firm\u2019s\u00a0 <\/span>Anglo-American theories, particularly \u2018Agency theory.\u2019 The convergence and divergence <\/span>in corporate governance due to innovation and customisation of practices fitting in with <\/span>the national culture have made Japan\u2019s practice different. The model Japan has evolved is <\/span>now being attempted to be replicated by many developed economies. Issues like a stockexchange <\/span>scam, business organisations functioning as pressure groups, and electronic <\/span>robbery in the Central Bank of Bangladesh have shown us that as a growing economy in <\/span>South Asia, Bangladesh requires a model to adapt and learn from the existing practices of <\/span>corporate governance to ensure the acceleration of economic development. This paper is <\/span>a qualitative review study based on the existing literature\u2014journal articles, book chapters, <\/span>newspaper articles, interviews of experts, and periodicals.
